HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
Most folks get to enjoy a sigh of relief on January 2nd of each new year. Unless, of course, that's the day they take down their Christmas tree and all the various and sundry decorations spread out all over the house. But not us . . .
The first day of January is Bobby's son's (Tim) birthday. He was a very grown up 38 years old. Don't forget to call to see if he got our birthday card!
The seventh day of January is my sister, Cathy's, birthday. She is three years younger than me, making her 61 years old. She doesn't look it, and acts like a 40-year old! She has a zest for life - most of the time - that equals the youthful exhuberance of a teenager. Man, what can I get her for her birthday? I gave her a movie card (she LOVES movies!), but because we had all been sick for a couple of weeks, I didn't have time to buy a card; and, I just couldn't find the stack of cards I keep for just such emergencies. A kiss on the cheek and a big hug seemed to be enough for her, along with my apology.
January 10 is coming, and I'm just getting back some energy. On the 8th, I receive Bobby's anniversary gift in the mail - a new wedding band to replace the one he just had to cut off because it was about to strangle his ring finger. I don't know how he's worn it for the last year or two like that. And being a handyman, he uses his hands for everything; the little gold band is so thin, it doesn't take much to cut it off. The new band is made of Titanium and is beveled on the edges, giving it a "manly" look, as Bobby commented. It fits him perfectly. So he had his gift two days early and I haven't had the time nor the energy to go out and buy a card. His card to me is cute and funny and makes me giggle out loud. Each year he chooses between a 'funny' card or a 'romantic' card. This is the 'funny' year. No gift, but the promise of dinner and movie the following weekend, which suits me just fine. Because it's our anniversary, I know I can get him to take me to see "The Hobbit", much to his chagrin. He has no interest in sports, dinosaurs, classic literature or Tolkien. I am awestruck by all that and welcome the opportunity to let my ever-active imagination kick into high gear. I'd never see any of this on the big screen if it wasn't for my anniversary or birthday (which comes up next!).
Okay, finally. January 16th - my birthday - and the end of the celebrations in our family for the year. We're finally able to sit back, relax, and not be wondering if we have forgotten to get a card/gift for someone. Whew! I've also had enough of celebratory eating in the few restaurants that have food I can eat.
So, after Thursday next week, all will be back to nomal. I'm ready for it to all be over. Accept for the Christmas tree . . . that's the only downer for me. I just love the lights.
I hope you all had a great holiday season. In spite of all that is happening around us - the fiscal cliff, higher food and gas prices, the destruction of our Constitution, the climbing unemployment numbers, and society going down the tubes - God is still on His Throne. As His children, we have nothing to fear, for He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. The New Year is full of opportunities to celebrate Christ with friends, family, and whomever God brings our way. And we'll never get tired of sharing, praying, or blessing others.
God bless you and yours, and may the Lord find you about His business in 2013!!!
